Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) represent a grave health risk for hospitalised patients, leading to a substantial increase in morbidity, mortality and costs in Europe. HAIs are often difficult to treat due to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Within hospitals, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs), two types of HAIs are of high relevance:
Central venous line infections (CVLI) and ventilatorassociated pneumonia (VAP).
It has been demonstrated that a set of simple and inexpensive clinical good practices (known as "bundled care") are highly effective in preventing and managing the most severe HAIs. The project entitled IMPLEMENT is designed for spreading and testing the knowledge on how to implement strategic bundles for infection prevention and management in a diverse sample of European hospitals.
